DAWN SERVICE

Subject to change closer to event depending on weather/participant numbers

  • Distance: approx 18 – 20km long,
  • Time: between 4 and 5 hours
  • Terrain: bush tracks, some steep, challenging terrain, single file bush tracks, open fire trails, suburban roads, coastal pathways.
  • Pace: will need to be a brisk pace to get the march completed in time for Dawn Service
  • Fitness level: you will need a moderate level of fitness to complete this trek
  • Experience: no previous hiking experience is necessary
  • Expectations: this WILL be a challenging hike. The terrain at the start of the hike will be quite steep in some sections and will be fairly uneven underfoot. It will be very dark, with the only light source coming from our headtorches and there may not be toilets available. It will however offer some spectacular views of the South Coast at a time when most people are normally sleeping. The terrain will become easier once we come down from the Escarpment and head towards the coast. It may get cold during the early hours of the morning and it might also be raining. With that being said, this is going to be a very challenging and rewarding experience for those who might not have completed something like this before.

It is COMPULSORY to bring a head torch/flashlight, enclosed footwear that’s suitable for hiking the distance, weather proof jacket, snacks, minimum 2L of water and a mobile device.

Some participants will decide to challenge themselves further by trekking with weighted packs and vests, webbing and/or carry torsion bars. We strongly encourage you to read our “Fitness Considerations” section to gain insight if this is an appropriate decision for yourself.

Trek4Vets advise all participants not to drive post the trek and to arrange alternative transport home.

Thank you for your support.
